Slow travel & photography

Continuing my travels around the UIg peninsula and going to Reef Beach in Lewis.

I was continuing my drive around the Uig Peninsula and did a little turn towards Keep and Reef Beach – Traigh na Beirghe. The clouds set in, but there were also rays of sunshine, more or less a usual Scottish summer´s day.

Looking down towards Kneep under the clouds, but the Hebridean sea always has this stunning turquoise water!

After a little walk around the tiny harbour and the beach, I continued to Reef Beach for a long walk.

There are always these tiny spots of wildflowers on the beaches – and again here is another stunning, white and endless Lewisian beach.

There is a campsite behind or better said in the dunes of the beach, so this one was actually a bit “busy”, but darker clouds were setting in.

After a long walk, I continued going towards my next accommodation in Shawbost.

It was time for another beach – on the way to the Mangersta sea stacks, I stopped at the stunning Mangersta beach.

Again I was all alone on a beach, even though it was a lovely warm summer’s day. But no complaints from me! I always love an empty beach!

After a little walk along the beach, I continued towards the Mangersta sea stacks, I think I didn´t find the perfect spot to look at them, but the views were still stunning. I probably needed to go further along on the track.

After my day in St Kilda, I said goodbye to Harris for now and drove to the Isle of Lewis. It was time to explore the Uig peninsula and the surrounding area. The home of the Lewis Chessmen.

Somewhere in the endless dunes of Uig Bay the ancient chessboard made out of walrus ivory was found – known today as the Lewis Chessmen. The original chessmen live in the British Museum in London, but there are still a few (very big) chessmen to be found on Lewis.

The Bay of Uig is an endless beach, one can walk for hours and just enjoy the views and take a bit of paddle in the sea.
