Good bye Tiree and Hello Islay!
Islay was the last stop of my Hebridean summer. Islay is the southern island of the Inner Hebrides, also known as “The Queen of the Hebrides.” Islay is the fifth-biggest Scottish island.
I arrived in my lovely cottage pretty much in the middle of Islay and was greeted by my neighbours—a very shy peacock and very curious chicken.
Portnahaven
My first little excursion brought me to Portnahaven – a lovely small town on the upper southern tip of Islay. Don´t miss this little gem!
I parked outside of town and walked to the main street. Portnahaven is a fishing village, filled with colourful boats and white cottages.
I spent some time sitting here and watching the seals bobbling around in the harbour. A perfect spot to watch the boats and seals go by.
Portnahaven was planned and built during the 19th century with fishing and crofting as the villagers’ main employment. (Islayinfo.com)
The village is built around the sheltered harbour and couldn´t be more picturesque.
I am spotting more seals from the other side.
The Rhinns of Islay lighthouse is built on the Islay Orsay opposite Portnahaven.
