Palais Ferstel is located between Freyung and Herrengasse, one of the oldest districts of Vienna, the Palais Quarter. The Palais was constructed between 1856 and 1860 by the young architect Heinrich von Ferstel. By its opening in 1860 it was known as Viennas most “up-to-date” building. It provided stylish ballrooms, salons, glass-covered courtyard and the perfect ambience for the Café Central, opened in 1870. Around 1900 it became the meeting point of academics and artists, the „Centralisten“. They used the café as their post address, their working space, their salon and their living room.  You´ll find Peter Altenberg still sitting in the café – or at least a life size figure of this famous guest.

Today I´d like to take a stroll through the Palais Ferstel Passage – one of the most beautiful passages in Vienna! One of the places where time stands still!

  • April in August

As the weather might change every minute, you should always have an umbrella with you! Or you´ll get soaking wet all the time (like me).

Wilhelm Jungmann & Neffe (founded 1866) is right across from the Albertina, the Erzherzog Albrecht monument is even reflected in the window.

  • Mission Possible

Tom Cruise and his crew turned the Vienna Opera House into a huge movie set. Scenes from “Mission Impossible 5” are shot there. To be honest I´ve never seen any one of the “Mission Impossible” movies but when I stepped out of the underground at Karlsplatz yesterday, saw the huge crowds of people looking at the roof of the opera – I had to take a peek, too. A stunt test was in full swing.
