Sunday at Spittelberg
The first Christmas Market, called “Christkindlmarkt”, are opening this weekend. I went to visit the one on Spittelberg in the 7th district near Mariahilfer Straße and Volkstheater. The area is known for its charming Biedermeier lanes of Vienna‘s former suburb. As I´ve been there very early in the day, the market was unusual empty, it´s one of the busiest markets and buzzing with people usually. Have a hot punch in the picturesque courtyard of the Amerlingbeisl and you definitely have to try bohemian Kartoffelpuffer (potato pancakes)!

Heldenplatz
It still feels like spring, the perfect weather to enjoy a walk around Heldenplatz. While studying and working on my master thesis I spent a lot of time there in the Nationalbibliothek (The National Library) and used to sit (or lie) in the lawn during my breaks.
Heldenplatz was built in the course of the Ringstraße boulevard project under the reign of Kaiser Franz Joseph I, even so the original planned “Kaiserforum” was never completed. The square is on the outer side of the Hofburg, adjacent to Volksgarten and Äußeres Burgtor (Outer Castle Gate) on the southside, erected in 1824 by Pietro Nobile.
