  • Bye Harris – hello Skye

On the ferry from Harris to the Isle of Skye

It was time to say goodbye to Harris and board the ferry from Tarbert to the Isle of Skye.

Going through all the tiny isles, the ferry took the course to the Isle of Skye.

We got some company for a bit, and a school of dolphins joined us.

And hello Skye – the weather just stayed a bit wet, like in Harris. On the way to my shepherd’s hut I first stopped at the Rha Waterfalls and the Fairy Glen (next post).

  • Macleod’s Stone & Tràigh Niosaboit

Walking up to Macleod´s Stone and looking down to Niseabost beach.

My second try to walk up to Macleod Standing Stone above Niseabost beach – the first time we got swept away by rain. And again, as soon as I started to walk up the hill, it began to rain again, but at least it made it look more dramatic.

The Standing Stone has been dated to the prehistoric Neolithic period and is believed to have been part of rituals, including funerary rites. The stones around the Standing Stones seem to be the remains of a cairn.

Looking down towards Niseabost Beach – on the other side of the hill lies Horgabost Beach. There is also a walk from one beach to the other one, which I had planned to do, but didn´t due to the rain, which stopped as soon as I had walked down again.

The views from the hill all around are fantastic!

  • Traigh na Beirghe – Reef Beach

Continuing my travels around the UIg peninsula and going to Reef Beach in Lewis.

I was continuing my drive around the Uig Peninsula and did a little turn towards Keep and Reef Beach – Traigh na Beirghe. The clouds set in, but there were also rays of sunshine, more or less a usual Scottish summer´s day.

Looking down towards Kneep under the clouds, but the Hebridean sea always has this stunning turquoise water!

After a little walk around the tiny harbour and the beach, I continued to Reef Beach for a long walk.

There are always these tiny spots of wildflowers on the beaches – and again here is another stunning, white and endless Lewisian beach.

There is a campsite behind or better said in the dunes of the beach, so this one was actually a bit “busy”, but darker clouds were setting in.

After a long walk, I continued going towards my next accommodation in Shawbost.
