  • Rosenhügelstudios – Halle 6

Somehow I never posted these last pictures from the former “Filmstadt Wien”. Last November I visited the Rosenhügelstudios while they already were torn down, except for two building: in Halle 1 film and tv- shows were shot and in Halle 6 they made the perfect sound.

Built in 1941 the “Synchronhalle” is one of five best “sound rooms” worldwide. And it´s one of the biggest: it is possible to record two orchestras at the same time.

Lucky enough Halle 6 will be a recording studio again. It was taken over by Synchron Stage OG who are planning to produce and record music and sounds for big hollywood produtions. Currently renovation and moderisation works are propably still underway, but once finished Abbey Road Studios is going tol have big competition!

Get ready for a huge load of pictures!

  • Rosenhügelstudios – Halle 1

This part of the Rosenhügelstudios is one of the oldest. Around 1919, when Vita-Film built these studios, daylight was used to shoot movies. The studios used to have huges windows and ceilings made of glass. But Vita-Film choose to believe in technologie and built one of the first studios for artifical light.

Halle 1 is 24 metres wide, 90 metres long and around 40 metres high. A 3 metres deep basin enabled underwater pictures.

Movies like “Samson and Delila”, “Hoffmans Erzählungen”, “Hotel Potemkin”, “Maskerade” and many many more were produced at Rosenhügelstudios. Or more recent the tv-show “Mundl” or movies like “Der Bockerer”, “Funny Games” and “Die Klavierspielerin”.

  • Rosenhügelstudios – first impressions

Last week I had the opportunity to visit the former “Filmstadt Wien” at the Rosenhügel Studios. Built from 1919 to 1923 by Vita-Film it was one of the most modern and innovative studio-complexes of that time. Over the course of years many well known movies were produced there until the majority of the site has been sold recently. Only two of the big (studio) halls were named listed buildings and are already on their way to new destinations.

Here are some first impressions of the former studio-complex, it´s mainly the entrance area and barracks I saw on the way to the first hall. Demolition work of the complex has already begun.
