  • The Shieling in Barvas and Brue

It was a glorious and very sunny Sunday morning and I decided to drive to the Butt of Lewis and make some stops along the way. My first stop was pretty close to Shawbost, a tiny little hut along the road – The Shieling in Barvas and Brue.

A shieling is a little hut or cottage in the moors used in the summertime by the women and children who took the animals out. Today some shielings are used as summer homes.

  • Traigh na Beirghe – Reef Beach

Continuing my travels around the UIg peninsula and going to Reef Beach in Lewis.

I was continuing my drive around the Uig Peninsula and did a little turn towards Keep and Reef Beach – Traigh na Beirghe. The clouds set in, but there were also rays of sunshine, more or less a usual Scottish summer´s day.

Looking down towards Kneep under the clouds, but the Hebridean sea always has this stunning turquoise water!

There are always these tiny spots of wildflowers on the beaches – and again here is another stunning, white and endless Lewisian beach.

There is a campsite behind or better said in the dunes of the beach, so this one was actually a bit “busy”, but darker clouds were setting in.

After a long walk, I continued going towards my next accommodation in Shawbost.

It was time for another beach – on the way to the Mangersta sea stacks, I stopped at the stunning Mangersta beach.

Again I was all alone on a beach, even though it was a lovely warm summer’s day. But no complaints from me! I always love an empty beach!

After a little walk along the beach, I continued towards the Mangersta sea stacks, I think I didn´t find the perfect spot to look at them, but the views were still stunning. I probably needed to go further along on the track.
